7 Principles to Sustained Easeful, Rapid Scale – Transformance Keys to Beating the Odds

In the over 28 million businesses in the United States, 1 out of every 25 companies (just 4%) reach the $1M annual revenue mark; and 1 out of 250 companies (just 0.4%) make it to the $10M annual revenue mark.

Of the 28 million businesses in the United States, only 1 out of 25 grow beyond $1M in annual revenue.

Only 1 out of 250 grow beyond $10M in annual revenue.

The key takeaway from these stats is simple – MOST companies don’t make it above $1M in annual revenue, and even fewer break the $10M annual revenue mark.

At Transformance Business consulting, we pride ourselves not only in supporting companies in reaching these against-the-odds levels of success – we support companies in achieving a state of what we call Sustained, Easeful, Rapid Scale (SERS).

What is Sustained, Easeful, Rapid Scale anyway? By “Rapid Scale” we mean average annual growth rates of at least 40%. By “Sustained” we mean that your company is able to sustain this growth rate for at least 2 years. And by “Easeful” we mean that your team has an enjoyable work experience that allows for a balanced life.

For the most part, if companies do break into the upper echelons of growth ($10M plus in annual revenue), they do not consistently have the Sustained, Easeful, Rapid Scale trifecta. They are either not experiencing these kinds of growth rates, not able to generate these growth rates consistently year after year, and if they are generating these growth rates with consistency – they are not doing so with ease.

In this Blog Series (entitled “7 Principles to Sustained Easeful, Rapid Scale – Transformance Keys to Beating the Odds”), we will take a deep dive into each of the 7 key principles that we have found to be critical to not only break into the upper tiers of business success, but also to achieve a state of Sustained, Easeful, Rapid Scale.

Here’s an overview of each of the 7 Key Principles. Stay tuned for upcoming deep dive blogs on each of these key principles.

Principle 1.  Vision is Everything – The Fuel for Your Company’s Success

Consider that in a company, the underlying energy source (or fuel) for all action is motivation.  Also consider that there are varying degrees of quality of motivation, and therefore varying degrees of quality of the energy source that your company runs on.  The higher the quality of motivation, the more sustainably successful your company will be.

Low quality motivation/energy is fear-based.  A common source of fear-based motivation for employees is that they are working because they need a job to pay the bills, and afraid that if they lose their job they will have to forfeit their current quality of life.

High quality motivation/energy is inspiration-based.  A powerful source of inspiration-based motivation is being connected to the company’s vision and/or an employees own personal vision.

Without a clear, compelling, authentic vision at either the company or personal level fueling your workforce, low quality motivation becomes the underlying energy source in your company.  This low quality energy source provides people with very little access to their full potential, energy, and creativity on a day-to-day basis. It is like trying to run a high-end sports car at peak performance with low-grade fuel.

On the flip-side, with a clear, compelling, authentic vision at either the company or personal level, high quality motivation becomes the underlying energy source in your company.  This provides your workforce with regular access to their full potential, energy, and creativity each day. This is the equivalent of running that high-end sports car at peak performance with the highest grade fuel.

It is pretty easy to see why Vision is truly at the source of the Sustained, Easeful, Rapid Scale of your company.  High or low energy fuel for your company – choose!

Principle 2. Well Functioning Systems – The Foundation of SERS

A system is essentially a bunch of parts working together to produce a result.  A Well Functioning System is a system where (1) each part of the system is working well on it’s own, and (2) working well with the other parts of the system.

It is pretty easy to observe in life that when a system is well functioning – sustained, easeful success can emerge from that system.  And when a system is not well functioning, anything but sustained, easeful success emerges.

Consider the system called a pick-up truck.  For this system to be well functioning (and have sustained, easeful success emerge) each part must be (1) working well on its own… the engine, the drivetrain, the wheels, etc., and (2) working well with the other parts… the engine needs to be connected properly to the drivetrain, and the drivetrain needs to be connected to the wheels, etc.  If either an individual part is not working well on its own, or a part is not working well with another part, some level of sustained, easeful success will not be possible.

A business is essentially a complex system.  For sustained, easeful success to emerge from a business, each part must be (1) working well on its own… the tools, the processes, the teams, and the individuals, and (2) working well with the other parts.  If either an individual part is not working well on its own, or a part is not working well with another part, some level of sustained, easeful success will not be possible for the business.

Principle 3. Game / Systems Match – Tune the Systems to the Game You Are Playing

Whether or not a system is well functioning depends on what you are putting the system to work on.  Said another way, the system needs to be tuned to the game you are playing in order for the system to be well functioning.

Consider the truck example used above.  If all the individual parts and the inter-workings of each part of the truck are designed or tuned to be well functioning specifically for onroad driving, the truck will most likely not be well functioning when driving offroad.  And sustained, easeful success will not be present when driving offroad (i.e. getting stuck in mud / snow). If the individual parts and the inter-workings of each part is tuned for both onroad and offroad driving, then the truck will be well functioning and sustained, easeful success will emerge.

The same is true for a business.  All the individual parts and the inter-workings of each part of the business must be designed or tuned to be a well functioning match to the vision of the company.  Said another way, the business systems must be tuned to the Game the business is playing.

Principle 4. The 6-Step Process – Moving From Where You Are to Where You Want to Be.

The Transformance 6-Step Process is at the heart of the work we do to support companies in moving from where they are to where they want to be. To getting clear on what the company what the company wants in a given time period, to chunking down the Goals, Projects, Deliverables, and Actions necessary to get there, to identifying and transforming the Blockers that arise along the way – each step of the 6-Step Process is critical to understand and know how to apply. We will be diving into each of the steps of this 6-Step Process in our upcoming supporting blog articles.

Principle 5. The Problem is the Path – Blockers As Access

Principle 6. Your People Are at the Core – Well Functioning People

Without people, a company is nothing more that some strategies, systems and products. To operate the company and bring it to life – you need people. Recall Principle 2 (Well Functioning Systems), and Principle 3 (Game / Systems Match). These principles apply to your people as well as all the other aspects of your business.

Regarding Principle 2 (Well Functioning Systems), consider that you could view the human system at a top level consisting of the Body, the Mind, the Heart, and Consciousness. In order for sustained, easeful success to emerge from each one of your employees’ human systems – each of these parts must be working well on their own, and well with the other parts. An easy example of this is if an employees’ physical health (or their body) is not working well. This makes it much more difficult for them to show up fully energized each day at work.

Regarding Principle 3 (Game / Systems Match), if a person’s human system is not properly tuned to the role they are playing in the company, sustained, easeful success will not be present for them and the people they work with. Also, the bigger the Game the company is playing and the bigger the role an individual is playing in that Game, the more well-tuned that person’s system must be in order for sustained, easeful success to be present.

Principle 7. Maximize Levels of Consciousness – It’s a No-Brainer

Higher levels of employee consciousness is critical to achieving Sustained, Easeful, Rapid Scale for your company. This principle is really is a no-brainer (no pun intended – well… just a little bit!).

Higher levels of consciousness allows (to name a few):

  • Ability to focus a higher percentage of brain power on the task at hand.
  • Being less run by ego and therefore more able to collaborate and create effectively.
  • Being less at the effect of self-imposed limitations, allowing access to more potential.

Bottom line is, the more conscious your employees are, the more they are able to be a consistent, A+ Player that can support the Sustained, Easeful, Rapid Scale of your company.
